John P. Figueroa, MPA, is a consultant, author, and former nonprofit executive who works at the intersection of strategy, lived experience, and real-world execution.
His perspective is not theoretical.
John spent four years in juvenile facilities as a youth, followed by more than sixteen years incarcerated as an adult, including nearly a decade in solitary and long-term confinement. That experience shaped how he understands systems, behavior, decision-making under pressure, and the gap between policy and reality.
After returning to the community, he built a career inside the very systems he once moved through. He went on to lead multi-site youth and family services programs, manage complex operations, and work at the executive level within nonprofit organizations serving justice-involved populations.
That full-spectrum experience revealed a consistent pattern: many strategies are well-designed on paper, but fail in practice because they are not built for how people actually think, live, and respond under real conditions.
Across all of his work, the focus remains the same: build systems that actually work for real people, in real conditions.
John has multiple degrees, including a Master of Public Administration & Nonprofit Management.
Most organizations don’t have a vision problem. They have an execution problem. Good ideas. Strong intentions. But the systems don’t hold up under real-world pressure. That’s where this work comes in.

Build systems that actually hold up in the real world.
This work focuses on strengthening how organizations operate, make decisions, and deliver services. Not just what’s written in plans, but what actually happens day to day.
Support includes organizational development, program expansion, leadership advisory, board advisory, and helping leadership and governance stay aligned with reality, not just reporting.

Use AI to increase capacity without increasing chaos.
Most organizations are either underusing AI or using it in ways that create more confusion than value. This work focuses on practical implementation.
That includes workflow optimization, reporting improvement, AI readiness, and staff training.

Real conversations. Practical insight. No performance.
Available for keynotes, panels, workshops, and trainings focused on reentry, youth justice, systems design, and practical AI.
These sessions are designed to challenge thinking and leave people with something they can actually use.
